Dragon Boat Racing in Bristol September 26th 2010

We are looking for people to make up a team for the BRISTOL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL, Baltic Wharf, Bristol - Sunday 26th September 2010 - this is guaranteed fun for 16 paddlers and one drummer to race in a dragon boat against the other teams. All the team needs to do is raise £1,750 in sponsorship (no experience necessary). The entry fee is £350 per team (so about £20 per person). SIGN UP NOW

We would like to the team to raise money for the West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight. The West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight provides specialist education and care for young people with visual impairment and additional complex needs.

We are a registered charity and currently have 110 children and young adults from 5 to 24 years old, all of whom have sight loss and 95% of whom have additional complex needs such as physical disabilities, learning disabilities, other sensory impairment, medical needs and life limiting degenerative conditions.

The West of England receives a fee to cover the basic education and care for each individual, but this covers very little of the specialist equipment and activities which are so vital towards our provision. This fee does not cover the buildings or maintenance and anything that is relating to the young people as a group.

We rely on the generosity of the public to fundraise for things like talking computers, wheelchair accessible tables, Braillers, talking calculators, adapted minibuses and vehicles, adapted trikes and bikes, hoists, large screen televisions, specially adapted sports equipment, mobility equipment, sailing trips, large print and Braille books… all the additional equipment and services we require to provide a bespoke program to every young person at our school and college.
