postheadericon The web is changing

As the internet has grown so the development of the medium with which we communicate has changed. Ten years ago the static website was the standard generic format for established business with commercial style photographs and austere looking photographs of suited directors and partners and professional copy that portrayed the business as a rock solid pillar of the global community.  Today we are so far removed from that type of 'corporate' website (although they still have their place in the scheme of things) that we are now into 'people buy from people' web sites and these are extremely dynamic and fluid in form. There are no longer set guidelines and the quality of software available to provide interactive web design means that it will continue evolving and, mostly for the better.

The socially explosive use of the internet as a medium to communicate at every level has bought about a seachange in the way we view on-line business, in fact it has even changed how we view off-line businesses because effectively if you are off-line today - you don't exist.

Social media has become the means by which businesses communicate with their staff, customers, partners, associates and even their competitors. It is no longer considered strange or weird for a large company to use Twitter, or use facebook to promote itself as a socially aware business model. Companies and people across the globe are now communicating in less than 140 characters and what's more - doing it very well.

So, websites today need to reflect that change in status and must incorporate such things as twitterfeeds, facebook links and now youtube and audio feeds as well. We have 3D avatars which will within a few years be virtual images of ourselves and with our voice pattern too. Video blogs are making an impression and fad or fashion, they will own their place on your website.

The increasing incorporation of dynamic media currently being developed into our daily lives is essentially changing the way we interact with other people: friends, customers, associates, family, employees, managers, all carry less and less distinction as the barriers between family, personal and business lives blur and intermingle.

Business today is carried out on a personal and social level. Today socially savvy entrepeneurs are making massive gains against major competitors that have still not woken up. People are no longer selling as, or buying from, businesses. People today are buying from people they know or trust.

So starting from today, if you want to win in business first win friends."
