Fresh (well ok knackered) from finishing the Trent Park Race for Life it's quite uplifting to be carried along in the sea of cerise... but the hardest part was trying not to read the messages of love worn proudly not only on their sleeves but the backs of their t-shirts, their knickers (worn on the outside) and anywhere else they could put them...
There were girls (and a few pretenders) of all ages joining together to help others and remember the loved ones they have lost or who have won the cruel battle against cancer. These are real people, putting aside the hurt, anger, pain and anguish to come out united in hope to raise money to stop the finger of fate invading another life.
Reading the pain in roll call proudly displayed on people shirts contrasted sharply with the smiles and determination on everyone’s faces. Let’s face it, who couldn’t smile to see the fashion parade of pink.. tutus, leggings, deely boppers, bunny ears, fairy wings and wands were the order of the day... the brighter the better.
Every person could tell a story and you would be in tears if you asked them all.. so let’s focus instead on the £6 million pounds they hope to raise from this nationwide event from everyday adults and children of all ages, shapes and sizes. If the hope and energy of these people could be bottled and turned in to a cure we would be well on our way to helping thousands of people...
This is the best excuse for a walk in the park I have found and if you can get involved will it really hurt...? What are you waiting for then...? There are still some in your area.
